Site Work Begins

Site preparation began this Wednesday, starting with tree clearing. We went up Friday night to stay over before picking our oldest daughter up from summer camp Saturday morning. I walked around the site early Saturday and took some pictures.
A new driveway will be built following the existing primitive car path. Above is our newly widened entrance from the road.

Continuing down the path, trees and stumps have been removed in advance of grading and laying down a shale road base. The house itself will be just on the other side the grove of trees ahead on the right side. The grove will help to shield the view of house from the road.

While we are being careful to keep as many hardwood trees as we safely can around the house, one particularly large oak had to go. This is its trunk, with minivan to establish scale. We are getting a decent pile of firewood around our fire ring out of this. Our tiny cabin and its immediate surrounds will not be touched for the house project. It will continue to serve as overflow sleeping accomodation or just a separate quite space.
This shows site clearing for the house itself. A lot of progress was made in just three days, and while there is a bit more to clear, it looks they will soon be done clearing.

I should be back up on site in three weeks, and I am excited to see how much gets done in that time.
